An experiment, with things I've never tried before in almost every aspect and detail of the picture, some more successful than others. I also tried some things that didn't make it to the final version because I couldn't get them to work, for instance, giving him a light beard, or trying to put a ship in the lagoon. There is still a lot I'd like to do with the picture, but in the interest of finishing some time this century, I just put an end to it!
666 was the kiriban number, but also, my little joke that I'm sure no one will get... The dire warning "666" is scrawled on this old chest to caution good souls that "the beast" is inside, but then when you open it you find out this feared creature is the common rubber duck. (The color of the duckies was also in play with my original idea, but there was no way I could pull that off since I'm not a skilled animator. I pictured a darkened scene where you would initially see just a golden glow coming from a pirate chest as it was opened. You'd naturally assume it was from gold doubloons, but then the camera would pan as he continued to open the chest, and you'd see it was only yellow duckies.)
This was for ~lynda-chan who got the kiriban number, as you can see!
Oooh, I love the contrast of the pearly pastels with the swashbucklin' theme. ^_~ Mr. Pirate has an adorable face, as well!
*steals and squiks a duckie!*
WOW!! The level of detail is wonderful, and those rubber duckies are perfect!! XD
The background is gorgeous... The water one the sand is something I've never managed to master, and you've managed to capture it here... **drools**
Love the pirate's expression, and that parrot rocks my socks!!
The gentle shading and minute attention to detail just takes my breath away....
I'm so honored! Thank you very much, Ms. Asynjur ma'am!
Thank you! Means a lot coming from a wonderful artist like yourself. And I'm happy you like the duckies, I don't know you well so I wasn't sure if that would appeal to you or not, glad it worked out! I just wanted something a little different, not what you'd usually see in a pirate pic. Arrr, matey!
I think this one was well worth all the time and effort spent on it. You've made a wonderfully realistic picture. I certaily wasn't expecting the rubber duckies. The water fade and the palm trees both look amazing, I can't get over how good they look. The chest and parrot both look so real. Awesome work, and I think it's good that the pirate looks so clean, he really seems like the kind of guy to collect rubber duckies.

Well, he may not have set out to collect rubber duckies, but he certainly has some now!
