I know a few former GoPets players follow me here, so I thought I'd post, in case any of them see this and haven't heard the news elsewhere.

A game that I truly adored is closing after a painful decline.  I believe if it had been developed with more care, GoPets would be a household word by now.  The wasted potential is maddening, and very sad.  I'll miss my little darlings, but I'm sure they'll be surfing the internet in style, not constrained by a program.  Maybe I'll reincarnate them in another game someday.

MrFritz has created a forum that GoPets players can visit to keep in touch after GoPets closes gopets.forumotion.net/forum.ht…

The intellectual property rights to GoPets have been sold to Zyanga, as I understand it, but we've been told they have no plans for the game at this time.  They might end up using a few ideas from GoPets here and there in other games, and we'd never know.  I may write Zyanga just to let them know some former players would love to play GoPets again, but the kinder, gentle GoPets game we had in the beginning, rather than the endless gambling boxes and such that came later.

So, I'm on Twitter, Asynjur. Don't know if I'll use it, I'm waaay too verbose for Twitter!  And I never sign up for the big fads.  But someone mentioned on their blog that they didn't sign up for Twitter because their username was taken. So I just had to nab up Asynjur, to make sure no one else did, LOL. When I signed up I checked through my email address book, and a few people were on there. I also signed up for some celebs, and news feeds, they let you pick from when you sign up. Wil Wheaton posts all the time, LOL. Brent Spiner doesn't post nearly as much, but it's still fairly often, comes in bursts. I know those are the "real" people because they were in the sign up options, but trying to just search for a celeb name is problematic. I looked for Stephen Colbert when my husband asked if I was following him, but none of the four that came up were really him (one had a ton of watchers and said funny things you'd imagine his character to say, though, many quoted from the show, might be funny to sign up for that). You'd probably have to see their Twitter username on an official site to know you were getting a "real" famous person. Oh, also, if you sign up, it asks for your real name so people who know you can find you, but I don't want to be found, LOL, and it's not hidden in any way, people see it when they go to your profile page. I'd like something that's easy to use, and doesn't cost $100. Something simple and intuitive, with useful filters. I'd like to be able to edit, smudge, lighten, etc. I don't need layers, never could get the hang of them. I don't need a million file formats, just the most common ones, jpg, gif, png, bmp.

At the moment, I don't have any kind of graphics program on this laptop. So if I even just want to crop a screenshot, I have to transfer it from this computer to my old, slow desktop computer, so I can use the program on there, Paint Shop Pro 8. (I tried a newer version of Paint Shop Pro on my other laptop, and I hate it. It's confusing, and half the time it crashes as soon as I start the program. To be honest, I liked even older versions of Paint Shop Pro better than 8. Every version they come up with seems to be less functional, has more problems with memory management, and is more complicated, than the last.)

Anyone know of a good, simple program available today? Let me know if you have any ideas, thanks!

Have you heard of Mad Libs? We used to play them when I was a kid. You take a story with certain key words left out, and before you read the story, you ask people in the room for random words of various kinds to complete the story. After the words are filled in, the story might come out pretty funny. The ones we played when I was a kid were sold at Spencer Gifts, and they still make them. But I managed to write a couple myself on an earlier version of my forum, and people had fun with it. I wrote something now, which isn't exactly a story, well, you'll see what it is after I get the words to fill it in so I can post it on my forum.
