I know a few former GoPets players follow me here, so I thought I'd post, in case any of them see this and haven't heard the news elsewhere.

A game that I truly adored is closing after a painful decline.  I believe if it had been developed with more care, GoPets would be a household word by now.  The wasted potential is maddening, and very sad.  I'll miss my little darlings, but I'm sure they'll be surfing the internet in style, not constrained by a program.  Maybe I'll reincarnate them in another game someday.

MrFritz has created a forum that GoPets players can visit to keep in touch after GoPets closes gopets.forumotion.net/forum.ht…

The intellectual property rights to GoPets have been sold to Zyanga, as I understand it, but we've been told they have no plans for the game at this time.  They might end up using a few ideas from GoPets here and there in other games, and we'd never know.  I may write Zyanga just to let them know some former players would love to play GoPets again, but the kinder, gentle GoPets game we had in the beginning, rather than the endless gambling boxes and such that came later.

Lately my husband and I have been playing World of Warcraft.

So, I'm on Twitter, Asynjur. Don't know if I'll use it, I'm waaay too verbose for Twitter!  And I never sign up for the big fads.  But someone mentioned on their blog that they didn't sign up for Twitter because their username was taken. So I just had to nab up Asynjur, to make sure no one else did, LOL. When I signed up I checked through my email address book, and a few people were on there. I also signed up for some celebs, and news feeds, they let you pick from when you sign up. Wil Wheaton posts all the time, LOL. Brent Spiner doesn't post nearly as much, but it's still fairly often, comes in bursts. I know those are the "real" people because they were in the sign up options, but trying to just search for a celeb name is problematic. I looked for Stephen Colbert when my husband asked if I was following him, but none of the four that came up were really him (one had a ton of watchers and said funny things you'd imagine his character to say, though, many quoted from the show, might be funny to sign up for that). You'd probably have to see their Twitter username on an official site to know you were getting a "real" famous person. Oh, also, if you sign up, it asks for your real name so people who know you can find you, but I don't want to be found, LOL, and it's not hidden in any way, people see it when they go to your profile page. I changed mine when I realized that. It lets you use any name.  Here's a list of famous twits, LOL wefollow.com/

I'd like something that's easy to use, and doesn't cost $100. Something simple and intuitive, with useful filters. I'd like to be able to edit, smudge, lighten, etc. I don't need layers, never could get the hang of them. I don't need a million file formats, just the most common ones, jpg, gif, png, bmp.

At the moment, I don't have any kind of graphics program on this laptop. So if I even just want to crop a screenshot, I have to transfer it from this computer to my old, slow desktop computer, so I can use the program on there, Paint Shop Pro 8. (I tried a newer version of Paint Shop Pro on my other laptop, and I hate it. It's confusing, and half the time it crashes as soon as I start the program. To be honest, I liked even older versions of Paint Shop Pro better than 8. Every version they come up with seems to be less functional, has more problems with memory management, and is more complicated, than the last.)

Anyone know of a good, simple program available today? Let me know if you have any ideas, thanks!

Have you heard of Mad Libs? We used to play them when I was a kid. You take a story with certain key words left out, and before you read the story, you ask people in the room for random words of various kinds to complete the story. After the words are filled in, the story might come out pretty funny. The ones we played when I was a kid were sold at Spencer Gifts, and they still make them. But I managed to write a couple myself on an earlier version of my forum, and people had fun with it. I wrote something now, which isn't exactly a story, well, you'll see what it is after I get the words to fill it in so I can post it on my forum. I hope it will be funny, but it's kind of a gamble, LOL! But first I need words. Your words! The thread is here -- www.bearjests.com/forum/index.…

My poor forum has been rather dead and neglected with my family troubles last year.  I'd love to get people posting again!  Please stop by, check out our little games in Insomnia Zone, the daily chat in Exit 47 (you don't see that folder until you log in), and comment on any threads in any section, old or new, or start one yourself!

www.bearjests.com/forum/

I will start posting daily (whether anyone replies or not, LOL).  PM me if you need your password.
Please be sure to read my previous journal entry, featuring artwork from Rheall.  asynjur.deviantart.com/journal…

Asynjur's Forum for Friends www.bearjests.com/forum/

Time for my twice annual forum plug!  At the moment I have maybe half a dozen regular visitors to my forum, and maybe a dozen more who stop by once and a while.  But I'd love to see some former  members return, and bring in some new blood!  I removed all the GoPets folders, by the way, I'm still playing but needed a bit of a break.

I think of my forum as a little haven.  You can talk about almost any topic you like--post about TV shows you've been watching, play little forum games like 20 questions, or just talk about your day. The forum has sections on nature and animals, mythology and folklore, teddy bears, art and poetry, and more. I'm trying to get "3 Word Story" going in the Creative Muse section, and there's also a section for online games.  I'm trying to post a couple mini movie reviews a week in the "What movies have you seen lately? III" thread, and I'd love to hear what you've been watching, too!

So please stop by, and if anything intrigues you, do not hesitate to post! Thanks!

I'm doing my own variation of the "look through 10 galleries" thing that's been going around.  I think 10 is a lot to look through, and I also think just posting a few links without any text or a new entry is not really much exposure for those who participate.

So to participate in my version, you only need to commit to looking through 3 galleries.  But you should do something in addition to linking to a few favorites.  What you do is up to you!  You could add comments to several pieces in the gallery, or post a new journal entry with thumbnails from the featured gallery, or write a review of the gallery or of specific deviations.  You have to look through the whole gallery, anyway, so why not?  If you want to join in, just comment on this entry or the previous one.

.

:iconrheall:

First up, my long time friend Rheall.  Her gallery features all kinds of artwork, drawings, paintings, wacom and photography.  These aren't necessarily my favorites, just pieces I wanted to comment on.  I couldn't get thumbnails to work, do you need a pay account?

rheall.deviantart.com/art/Madd…

This little filly got more than she bargained for!

rheall.deviantart.com/art/Merr…

Love the Aurora Borealis on this one.  My husband has a theory, that polar bears vacation in the South Pole and snack on penguins!  ;O)

rheall.deviantart.com/art/Oone…

She does a lovely job with horses, I never could get the hang of them!  Several people have colored this sketch, and she provides all the links to see the colored versions.

rheall.deviantart.com/art/Crea…

A nice little pen and ink of Rheall's muse.

rheall.deviantart.com/art/Perf…

I was struck by the pictures of birds in flight, "Perfect Form" being one example.  She links to a larger version you can use for wallpaper.

rheall.deviantart.com/art/Crys…

Dewy grass with slightly altered colors, just marvelous!  There are also some great pictures of splashing water, here are a few links rheall.deviantart.com/art/SS-R… rheall.deviantart.com/art/SS-A… rheall.deviantart.com/art/SS-B…

"The first ten people to comment on this will get me looking through their galleries and picking the three things I like the most. I will then post links to the pieces for all and sundry to enjoy. The only condition is that they must do likewise, and offer the same deal in their journals."

Edit: I know this has been going around that you will post picture links from up to 10 other people.  But I think 10 is a little much, and makes people less apt to reply because they don't want to look through so many galleries.  So lets say if you want to post in your journal that you will go through the galleries and pick favorites for up to 3 people, that's enough, and I will be happy to look through your pictures and post favorites!

I admit deviantART isn't one of my priorities right now.  It's not that I'm leaving.  I still check dA once and a while, but mostly just for notes and comments specifically to me.  I should really trim my watch list down to the people who I've actually had some contact with, and the artists I really enjoy.  Right now I have an embarrassingly large number of deviations just sitting there on my watch list.  I'm a ghost!

I think everyone goes through phases, different hobbies interest me at different times.  Artwork isn't something I'm very inspired to work on right now, or even browse that much.  There are times when I'm into writing, other times when I'm so into designing webpages I barely sleep.  But right now I'm not doing very much with art, designing or writing.  I'm sure I will again in the future, but I don't know when.  It depends on when my interests cycle back in those directions.

I hope I don't sound insensitive.  I still care for the friends I've made here!  Since I'm not really keeping up with journals or deviantions, if you need anything, please send me a note.

Although some of the artwork I owe people is partially done, I have to admit I'm not working on it right now.  It is all on hold.  My apologies to anyone I have disappointed.  I don't know if I will finish, or not.  Maybe some day, if the inspiration hits me!

If you're wondering what I've been doing, right now I'm spending all my time at GoPets and and on my own forum.

Take care all!

Ciao!

GoPets www.gopetslive.com/
My name on GoPets is Asynjur, as always, and my dog's name is Roshambo. Click here if you want to sign up and give me credit, I get shells for it! If you join and log in, you can see my GoPets profile here, and "Add as Friend" if you want to.  :aww:

I've wasted a lot of time there the last few days.  GoPets is a program to create a pet that lives on your desktop, but he won't stay there!  He wanders off to visit other GoPets members, all over the world.  Other people's kitties and puppies show up on your computer, too.  They are still in beta for a lot of stuff, so it can be a little odd. But it is fun to see the little critters wander around, and I'm starting to meet people a little.

I was even showing Roshambo, the little doggie I made, to Thomas yesterday morning. He thought it was pretty cute. But then the dog wouldn't eat or drink, even though his hydration and fullness were low. Thomas was saying, "I think we got a stupid dog!" Of course as soon as Thomas went into the shower to get ready for work, the dog started eating and drinking everything I put down, LOL!

Take care all!

Sorry, everyone, I haven't been on deviantART much.  I just haven't been in the mood to browse art, and I'm way behind on my watch list.  But I will catch up eventually!  Right now I've been working to redesign and reopen some small parts of my website.

Somewhere along the way, I became obsessed with webrings.  I never closed the two I owne when I closed my websites last summer, since then I adopted a webring about forums, and I just opened a *new* webring for cyberpets.  This note is about the later, which you may have guessed from the subject.

I'd appreciate it if any original cyberpet agencies would join my new ring. Right now the only sites in it are my own, and it seems a bit egocentric!

Adoptable CyberFriends
A new ring for almost any kind of cyber adoption agency, including fantasy creatures, cartoon dolls, kennels or catteries, breeding and growning agencies, cyberpet RPGs, click-n-takes, hand drawn, mouse drawn, and virtual pets. We also accept some cyber pet related resources. You can use your own HTML version of the code, if you want it to take up less room on the page.

Take care all!

Congrats to sheikah for winning the 6666 kiriban!

www.livejournal.com/users/asyn… signed up for my own LiveJournal page, Asynjur's Isle of Demons.  Still getting settled in.  If you're a friend and have an account, please stop by and friend me! Thanks!

Thank you to those who replied to my last journal.  I've been giving it some thought, and decided not to give up on art.  I just need to stop worrying about the fact that I don't finish things.  It's the worrying that makes it work!  So I've been trying to just work a little at a time, not to feel pressured.  I've made some progress, and it feels good.

I've also decided to redesign and reopen some small parts of my website over the next year, although not necessarily the well known parts.  I might even add some news things eventually.  I don't think it takes away from the art, since I can't make myself work on a picture very long, anyway.

Take care all!

.

Hope all of you out there in dA land are well.

Since my husband Thomas went back to work after being sick, I've caught up with the most urgent things I need to do.  I don't know what to do now.  It's not that things don't need to be done, some serious and some not so series, but I'm not up against any deadlines so it's hard to get motivated.

I don't even feel motivated to do something "fun"--like art.  I'd hoped that when I closed my websites, I would put more time into art.  But I'm starting to think lack of time wasn't the problem.

Nothing stopped me from drawing then, and nothing is stopping me now.  It's just that it's hard.  It takes a lot of time--more time for me than for most people.  I thought with practice sketching it might eventually take less time, and maybe that would be true, if I would actually practice!  But I don't.  Instead I find myself thinking about trying to learn php, and opening a website again.  Building webpages was always a project I could sink my teeth into.

I guess I just don't know what I want my hobby to be.  I could look into art classes, but why "force" myself to do something just as a hobby, if I don't "want" to do it?  Maybe I should do something else entirely.  Don't know what it would be.

This afternoon I realized I had free time, and thought, if I could do anything I want today, what would I do?  And I just don't know.  So instead I'm just babbling here.  Maybe I should sign up for livejournal after all and just babble, it's what I do best!  (I've resisted signing up for livejournal because it would seriously eat up my time, since I know like 100 people on there.)

Take care all!

Ciao!

Happy Groundhog's Day

.

Fable has it that on February 2, the groundhog will emerge from his hole and look for his shadow. If he sees it, there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't, spring will arrive soon!  As I understand it, Groundhog's Day was derived from the Old World holiday Candlemas, which evolved out of the Celtic holiday Imbolc, it marks the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox.

Here in the US, Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania gets all the attention, but Jimmy the Groundhog in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin is the true soothsayer!  Or at least that's what I've always believed, having grown up in Wisconsin.  Actually, Groundhog day is gaining in popularity and there are would be woodchuck prognosticators all over, from Birmingham Bill and Dixie Dan, to Metompkin Max and the albino Wiarton Willie.

Any groundhog traditions in your area?  Or other rights of spring?

I also wanted to apologize for being so behind on my watch list and everything else here at dA.  My husband Thomas has been ill on and off since Christmas, so I went from hectic holiday preparations to a whole different set of priorities.  Thomas is doing better and back at work again now, I hope this time it lasts!

Just an update, to let you know what's been going on with me lately.

My life went from hectic holiday preparations, to a complete change of priorities, when we had to take my husband Thomas to the hospital on Christmas Day.  Thomas has a colorful medical history, so I always worry, but luckily this was a short hospital stay.  As soon as he got home, though, he got the flu for a week.  He is feeling better and is back at work now, but he still coughs a little and has occasional pain.  So I encourage him to take it easy, and try not to worry.  Hopefully he'll continue to improve.

pangeadevi.sheezyart.com/ … signed up for a page at SheezyArt yesterday, but so far I only have a few pictures that are also here in my deviantART gallery.  If you're a friend here and have a page at Sheezy, please let me know your username so I can make sure I have you on watch there.  Thanks!

www.ebaumsworld.com/moresextha… just have to share this flash with a cute and apparently *too* innocent bunny!  If you can't hear all the words, watch the flash first (otherwise you ruin some of the effect), then go read the words here.

asynjur.deviantart.com/stats/g… you notice everyone here at dA now has a really kick ass stats page?  It tells you even more than you want to know, LOL!  Be sure to check out all the tabs when you visit your own gallery stats page, I think it even tells you how often you had to use the bathroom while browsing deviantART...

Watching Anime with my Husband

Tue Dec 21, 2004, 11:12 AM

.

As some of you know, I haven't seen much anime, I just like the great fan art online.  Of course, certain titles come up again and again in fan art, so I can't help but be curious about the shows.  Sometimes I'm actually disappointed seeing the real characters, given how fancy some of the fan art is--sometimes the real art pales by comparison.

Several weeks ago, The Cartoon Network here in the U.S. started showing Fullmetal Alchemist.  I found out because a few people mentioned it in their journals.  Unfortunately, I missed the first episode, and the second episode didn't make much sense without it.  I did like the look of the show, though.  Even given all the wonderful fan art I've seen, I still found myself thinking, "That's the real Ed!"  LOL!

The third episode gives the backstory, and I liked it well enough I actually decided to show it to my husband, Thomas, and see if he'd be interested in following the series with me.  He made fun of it, but we always heckle just about anything we watch (MST3K style), so that's no big deal.  One thing that bothered him is something that has bothered me, in this and the other few animes I've seen, the way they turn into goofy little drawings when they get mad or frightened.  But I've never liked that kind of over-the-top comic relief, even in other forms of entertainment.

One funny thing, Ed and Al messing with human alchemy reminded Thomas of an old Farside cartoon--young Victor Frankenstein stays after school, and he's writing, "I will not play in God's domain, I will not play in God's domain," over and over again on the blackboard.

At one point in the first couple episodes I showed him, Thomas said, "You just like this for the long hair!"

OK, that's a pretty safe bet, considering Thomas himself has long hair because I like long hair!  In fact, his hair happens to look almost exactly like Ed's right now.  Thomas used to keep his hair shorter in front, but he's been growing it out this year, and right now the front part comes just about to the bottom of his face, while the back is very long.  And Thomas has blond hair!

A couple times Thomas said, "Maybe I should wear my hair in a pony tail."  I finally had to point out Ed had a braid, not a pony tail.  I told him, "Like Willie Nelson, but only one braid instead of two."  (Well, so far Thomas hasn't asked me to braid his hair, LOL!)  Anyway, I should point out Thomas isn't a short person, though.  The resemblance is pretty much just the hair.  (I'm the short one around here!)

Well, watching the show made Thomas nostalgic for a show he watched as a kid called G-Force or Battle of the Planets.  Thomas looked it up online, and ordered a DVD, The Best of G-Force.  He didn't really expect it to be good, you know how things seem better when you are a kid.  But after watching a couple episodes he said, "This isn't as bad as I thought.  It's not that much different than Fullmetal Alchemist."  I said, "Yes it is!"  (Well, in some ways it was and in some ways it wasn't, LOL!)  Thomas watched the rest of the DVD later when I wasn't around, but I never said I wouldn't watch it.

I've babbled on long enough in this journal, so I'll save updates for later.  And I'll let you know if we keep watching Fullmetal Alchemist.  (Of course I've already ordered the DVD starter kit of it for myself!)

Gift Art Page and Miscellaneous

Well, this week was a bit up and down for me.  But our new frige works now, yeh!  I just put all the magnets and crap back on.  And I finally ordered some new curtain rods that I wanted.  Maybe this will eventually look like a house again.

GIFT ART
I added a page for gift art to my little homepage.  I have pictures from milchstrasse , LuvLoz , rheall and a very old birthday gift from elaria .  Wish I had time to finish more gifts for other people!

FORUM FOR FRIENDS
Just a quick plug for my forum again.  We have a great group of 4 or 5 regulars, but we need more occasional visitors.  The blurb: A light hearted forum for friends, old and new. Discuss nature, mythology, art, movies, teddy bears, or almost anything.  Talk about your day, share clean jokes, or play our own version of 20 Questions and other games.

Sorry I'm behind on my watch list again.  I was hoping to catch up today, but dA wasn't showing deviations half the time when I was trying to work on it, so I gave up for now.  Will catch up eventually!

It's Depressing

The Democrats lost ground on all fronts.  They lost seats in the House and the Senate.  Ballot measures banning gay marriage passed in 11 states.  And John Kerry did not win the popular vote as Al Gore had in 2000.  There is really no chance Kerry will eek it out in the Electoral College, either.

It seems the only way the Democrats will ever win is if they can find another charismatic leader, like Bill Clinton.  It's sad that the well being of our country, and other countries we interact with, is dependent on something as arbitrary as the cult of personality.

I realize the issues are more complex than that.  I'm just disheartened to live in such a conservative country, with languishing health care and other problems I just don't see being addressed, in addition to the foreign relations nightmare.  I voted.  In my state, Kerry got 60% of the vote.  Too bad he didn't do that well elsewhere.

You Are Number 6

Tue Oct 12, 2004, 11:50 AM
Since I finally finished the 666 kiriban, I'll go ahead and set another.  The new kiriban will be 6666, of course!  Please do a screen cap.  Warning to whoever claims it, I am very slow finishing pictures!

My current project is a picture for LuvLoz - she wants a numbat.  I'm going to try to do something fun with it, not sure if it will work out.

I'm still looking for off-the-wall suggestions for a new avatar.  I made a billion of them out of my old graphics and pictures last night, but nothing really clicked.  So I decided to just use a seasonal avatar for the time being.  It's a little Halloween animation I made a few years ago, originally part of an ecard.  But I'll want to change it come November, so please reply with avatar ideas.  Thanks!

Does anyone like the TV show Queer as Folk?  I've only seen the first three episodes of the U.S. series, but it was so funny, and some parts were touching.  I kept playing the "faggotmobile" scenes over and over, that was hilarious.  So I ordered the box set of the first season.

Ciao!

Journal Entry #16

Tue Aug 31, 2004, 1:57 PM

:iconluvloz:

:w00t: A good friend of mine LuvLoz signed up, some of you know her as Loz.  Please visit her page and make her feel welcome.  Thanks!

I have some relatives visiting soon, then I'm going out of town in mid-September, and I have a small trip coming up in October, too.  Just thought I'd let everyone know.  So if you don't see me much, it's not because I'm ignoring you!

I haven't seen much anime, as I'm mentioned in my journals before, but I recently bought the first DVD of Gravitation. After watching a couple episodes, I was thinking, how 'bout some suger for Hiro? He is better looking and has a better personality than Shuichi or Eiri, at least so far. Other than that, I was completely lost. (Any time I try to watch anime or read a manga online, I get lost, I'm just too old and slow for this new art form, LOL!) They pull out characters you've never seen before, and act like they're significant and you should know it. Still, I enjoyed the first episodes of Gravitation. I looked up some character profiles and fan sites today, so I can re-watch it and figure out what's going on.  I also read some spoilers, sounds interesting.

"You currently have no messages." :pointl:  Something I never see!  Why do I keep adding people to my watch list???

Ciao!
